How to nominate
There are twelve categories within the Young Scot Awards including the overall Young Scot of the Year accolade. For this award, the judging panel will select one winner from the other chosen category winners who they feel should be crowned ‘Young Scot of the Year’ - no easy task!
You can nominate in more than one category however you must complete an entry form for each category you wish to nominate in.
Please read through the category descriptions and select the category you wish to nominate in from the list. Please provide as much information as you can, the more details you can provide the judges with the better understanding they can have of their achievements.
IMPORTANT INFO - PLEASE READ:
- Nominations can only be accepted for individuals, groups or teams aged 11-26 who are from or located within Scotland
- Your entry must be completed before the deadline - 23:59, Monday 10th April
- Maximum word count of 800 is put in place for the entry box
- An individual/team/group/organisation can be nominated into more than one category however please tailor your entry according to the category in order to meet judges requirements
- Sponsoring companies are not permitted to enter the category they are sponsoring
- Nominations can be submitted by the individual/team/group/organisation directly or by a third party (agent, client etc)
- Successful nominations will be notified following the judging session in April
Judging of the Young Scot Awards is conducted by an independent panel. The information provided will be collated and followed by a shortlisting by our panel.

Categories
Arts Award
This is your opportunity to celebrate a young person’s or a group of young people’s contribution to arts and culture in Scotland. Are they inspiring and helping others to express themselves through arts or making a difference to their local community by sharing their time or creations in a creative way? If so, we want to hear about them so please nominate them for the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards Arts category.
Community Award
The community award celebrates the work accomplished by a young person or group that improves the lives of other people within a community. This could be with a local community or a community of people living in different parts of Scotland. Your nominee may have demonstrated good citizenship or leadership by influencing decision-making at local or national level, participated in community action, or who has made a huge difference through volunteering or leadership.

Enhancing Education Award
The Enhancing Education Award is for a young person or group who have truly influenced education in their community either by providing access and opportunities for others, or by influencing change in education for their communities. Whatever they do, this award will go to a young person or group who are determined to make a positive difference in enhancing education for others.
Enterprise Award
Do you know a young person or business run by young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial flair? Have they harnessed their passion to help economic growth and sustainability in their local community or started their enterprise from their bedroom? If you know a young entrepreneur or collective behind a great business, then nominate them today.
Entertainment Award
There are so many ways to entertain – this award is not just for the famous but for the stars in our midst who entertain us every day. They are the young stars of today or the fresh talent ready to explode onto their scenes. They could be a vlogger, an actor, presenter, a musician, a band, a comedian, an expert in shadow puppetry. Scotland certainly has talent and we want to hear about the young people or groups of young people who entertain you.
Environment Award
Do you know a young person or a group of young people who give their time and effort to help protect the world for future generations? This could be related to recycling, global sustainability, ecology or perhaps something else entirely. Whatever they do, this award will go to a young person or group who is passionate about green and environmental issues and determined to make a positive difference.

Equality and Diversity Award
The Equality and Diversity Award recognises a young person or group of young people working tirelessly to promote equality, diversity and inclusion or challenge prejudice and discrimination. Their efforts will have helped encourage respect, tolerance and understanding across all ages, races, faiths, genders, cultures, communities and identity. Celebrate their achievements and enter them for the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards Equality and Diversity Award.

Health and Wellbeing Award
Young people across Scotland are involved in supporting and inspiring others to improve their physical and mental health. They might be providing support in their communities, looking to change policy or services, working in healthcare or involved with healthcare charities. It’s important that their contributions are recognised. If you know a young person or a group of young people hard at work to improve people’s health - let us know.
Sport Award
Right across Scotland young people, through their efforts and determination, are achieving extraordinary things in sport. This can either be through playing or helping to increase access and opportunities for sport and active living. We want to hear about teams, individuals, coaches, volunteers and indeed anyone else who is inspiring others through grassroot sport or set to be the next Scottish sporting star.

Unsung Hero
Do you know a young person or group who goes the extra mile but never asks for any recognition or reward? Do they donate their time and energy free of charge to help other people or deserve recognition for their selfless contribution? Do you owe someone a thanks for their help and support? Has someone overcome difficult personal circumstances or risen to a challenge? We are calling on you to nominate an unsung young person who deserves this award.

Young Hero
The Young Hero award is for an extraordinary young person or group who deserves special recognition for their bravery. Do you know a young person who has shown amazing courage, battled the odds or showed incredible perseverance to save the day? You should nominate them as Young Scot’s Young Hero for 2023!
