Hitting the road in search of young heroes

Celebrities, sports stars, politicians and past winners will jump on board the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards bus as it travels around Scotland.

The tour, in association with Scottish Citylink, was launched on Tuesday with River City star Iain Robertson on board at the first port of call – Glasgow’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

He chatted with patients John Paul Rooney, seven, and Alex Delpippo,17, before handing out goodie bags.

Stops include the University 7s in Melrose today, the Scottish Parliament on May 1 and the TedX Conference in Glasgow on May 31. Nominations close on August 12.

Managing Director of Scottish Citylink, Robert Andrew said: “We’re delighted that our Young Scot Awards bus is on the road, touring the country to celebrate Scotland’s inspiring young people and encourage nominations.

We never fail to be impressed by the stories of commitment, courage and innovation that these awards unearth each year and look forward to meeting everyone on our travels over the next couple of months.”

Young Scot chief executive Louise Macdonald said: “The launch of the CityLink Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards bus tour at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Glasgow is part of an amazing Year of Young People 2018 for the Young Scot Awards.

We want to bring the Awards to every person in Scotland so that they can recognise the achievements of young people and the impact they make across Scotland.

Keep an eye out for the bus – and make sure you nominate every single one of the amazing young people in your community!”
